Captain Hardy Smith House

The Captain Hardy Smith House is located in Dublin, Georgia. It is the oldest home in Dublin on its original location. Built in 1873 it is located at 307 West Gaines Street in Downtown Dublin.

The restoration of the home included searching for mature pine suitable for cutting the large barge boards with no knots. The ones used came from the Altamaha Swamp around Hindsville, Georgia.

Kitchen Restoration

These pictures show how the kitchen looked before work was done. The front of the house was the main priority from the beginning. This is how it looked when I first bought the house in 2007.

You can see the old green paint and the original floor.

By this time in 2016 we had purchased a new light for the kitchen and were getting ready to firm up the floor. There were spaces in the floor that you could have fed chickens by kicking feed to the ground underneath!

New ply wood floor making is level.

A cheap vinal temporary floor cover.

Time to scrap and prime the walls.

Yours truly in action.

12 foot ceilings make for a lot of work!

The kitchen project stayed on hold till 2021 when an effort was made to paint. The blue trim was eventually dropped for another style.

Painting the primed wood.

New color scheme getting ready for cabinets.

New cabinets installed in the fall of 2021 by a professional.

The cost of new cabinetry for the refrigerator was prohibitive so yours truly designed and built the cabinets. Note the new floor was completed in 2022. Refrigerator cabinet completed in 2023.

Completed Cabinet!

The end result is a brand new kitchen in December 2023!

The final touch was the chandelier!
