Captain Hardy Smith House

The Captain Hardy Smith House is located in Dublin, Georgia. It is the oldest home in Dublin on its original location. Built in 1873 it is located at 307 West Gaines Street in Downtown Dublin.

The restoration of the home included searching for mature pine suitable for cutting the large barge boards with no knots. The ones used came from the Altamaha Swamp around Hindsville, Georgia.

Office Exterior Painted

Back side of my office...faded by the sun....now restored.

Besides being high on the 40 foot ladder...dealing with the wasp nests was challenging......a few times one landed on my arm...

Of course I knocked down three wasp nests before painting the top part.

This ladder has quite a history. It was purchased from Williams Contracting for $175 in 1987 at cost. I was working on an audit of the company and got a deal knowing the controller of the company through my work. It is made of aluminum and is very heavy which makes it safe to be on way above the ground.

Painting the tear drops meant a steady hand and careful balance way up there.

Now finished

Dining Room Exterior Painted

From beginning to the end of painting one side of the back dining room.

Now for the back side of the dining room.

This particular area shows dark residue. This was from the bats that had taken up home in the dining room.

This video was taken 5 years ago. It shows the bats in action and the poop they had deposited in the back part of the dining room on the inside.

And now a recap of before and after for both sides of the dining room. Note the new windows from the old blue house vs the simple temporary windows!
